A fifth generation Californian, and a graduate of UC Davis, Matt is firmly rooted in California soil. While pursuing a BS in agriculture, Matt worked his first vintage in the wine industry as a cellar hand at Codorniu Napa (now Artesa Winery). This early experience convinced him that the wine industry was his calling. After graduation, Matt spent 2 years growing table grapes, raisin grapes, and stone fruit in Fresno County. In 1999, he moved to Napa and planted his feet firmly back into the wine industry. Then beginning in 2004, and for the next 14 years, Matt managed the estate vineyards for Franciscan, Mt Veeder, and eventually Robert Mondavi Winery. This combined experience of managing vineyards in Napa Valley as well as working with many renowned winemakers has solidified Matt’s passion for producing wine grapes that are the best possible representation of their terroir. After joining the Atlas team in January 2019 as Director of Vineyard Operations, Matt is now able to leverage his experience across all of our client’s properties to help deliver on Atlas’s goal of farming select vineyards for exceptional wines.
